Larken & Co have always been delighted to be part of the community in Newark and are particularly proud of our proactive contribution to the life of local organisations, community ventures, charities, and supporting activities.

We take the view that it is important to give back and know that together we can make a real positive impact on lots of organisations. By supporting several events throughout the year, our contribution has helped to make a difference.

Some of the major events and activities that we support, and have taken part in over the years are:-

  • We have been Gold Sponsors of the St Mary Magdalene Christmas Tree Festival in Newark since its inception in 2008 and are thrilled to see how the festival has grown and developed over the years, becoming a highlight in the town’s seasonal calendar and attracting hundreds of adults and children.  The festival takes place across nine days at the end of November/beginning of December and creates a lovely atmosphere in the town.  It has received wide media coverage over the years, with its primary aim in bringing people together in the run up to Christmas and creating a great community spirit.  The festival is supported by local businesses, crafters, local schools and charities, and now plays a major part in Newark’s Christmas traditions.
  • We are keen sponsors of the Newark Rugby Union Football Club for several years and are proud to have been the main sponsor of the Girls Rugby Team in past seasons, helping to fund new training kit and equipment.  The club is an important part of the town’s sporting community and has gone from strength to strength over the years, fostering a positive and welcoming environment which we are proud to be involved with.
  • We are a proud sponsor of Southwell Choral Society which offers local people of all ages the opportunity to sing and perform a wide range of choral music to a high standard at the prestigious Southwell Minster, with main concerts open to the public taking place in May, July and November.
  • We have been actively involved with the Children’s Bereavement Centre - a local charity in Newark dedicated to supporting children and young people who have been affected by the death or terminal illness of someone important in their lives - and have been headline sponsor of their Daisy Campaign, an initiative to raise funds and awareness for its support services. We are proud to have been a part of such a worthwhile cause and to know that there is a safe and welcoming local environment for families to receive help and guidance at one of the most devastating and traumatic times of their life.
  • We actively engage and support our employees in fundraising and charitable activities, to help support their efforts and causes. We support local and national charities based on our staff suggestions so that everyone can get involved in helping in a variety of ways. This has included raising funds for Beaumond House Hospice, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Save the Children Fund, as well as collecting donations for the Newark Foodbank, and taking part in the now annual Children in Need and Red Nose Day bake offs and quizzes!
  • We support local schools by providing work experience placements as well as administering The Francis Bernard Caunt Education Trust which helps residents of Newark and surrounding areas progress with their academic or vocational education. We are also currently sponsoring a young talented Newark amateur boxer who has represented the East Midlands regional team on three occasions and has aspirations of being a future England champion.
  • We are committed to the local legal profession and have been lifelong members of Nottinghamshire Law Society, regularly attending, hosting and sponsoring many of the society’s events as well as sitting on Council as the local constituency member for Newark.
